Music Creation Project at Public School 56
The Music Creation Project (MCP) at Public School 56 is a comprehensive, interactive after-school music program. Through instruction on the recorder and percussion instruments, students learn basic components of music theory, such as form, rhythm, melody, and musical notation in a group setting during a 15-week residency.
MCP provides students with an opportunity to engage with music through hands-on instruction on various percussion and melodic instruments. This after-school music residency compliments the basic music classes offered by the school’s music teacher, reinforcing lessons learned and expanding upon them through the integration of different cultural backgrounds.
