Mission

It is the mission of the Southern Percussion Ensemble (S.P.E.) to create a competitive performing percussion unit that transcends the traditional role of percussion in the HBCU community. We strive for creating an unbreakable cohesion between musicianship, quality, high-level percussion pedagogy and entertainment. It is our sincere hope that through these efforts we enrich the lives of our members and the community we serve while creating a sustainable, positive mentorship platform through our organization.

Music Creation Project

Using rhythmic studies, ear training, singing and improvisation, our Music Creation Project teaching artists lead students through an exciting exploration of the fundamentals of music making.

Students will develop their sense of rhythm, learn healthy singing techniques, and practice how to play simple songs on percussion instruments.

They will train their ears to listen to music and articulate what they hear using basic music literacy. Many musical concepts will be introduced through age-appropriate activities including: dynamics, tempo, notation and style.

Program Delivery Method: Virtual (Recorded & Live Sessions via Zoom)
Grade Level: Elementary School Students
